About our name
UniversaCare is written as one word. Families often find us by searching “Universa Care” or “Universal Care,” and we’re glad they do. Whatever spelling brought you here, UniversaCare provides personal care, companionship, dementia care, live-in care and nursing oversight across New York and Connecticut. UniversaCare at a glance
What UniversaCare is: a licensed home care agency serving New York City, Long Island, Westchester and Connecticut from 10 local offices. In New York we operate as a New York State Department of Health Licensed Home Care Services Agency (LHCSA); in Connecticut we operate as UniversaCare of Connecticut (BESA Companions & Homemakers LLC, CT Department of Consumer Protection registration HCA.0000147).
Who we help: older adults and people with disabilities who want to stay safely at home, and the families who care for them. Care ranges from a few hours a week to 24-hour and live-in support.
What we provide: certified home health aides and personal care aides, homemakers and companions, live-in and overnight care, Alzheimer’s and dementia care, hospital-to-home transition care, respite care and veterans’ home care. New York care plans are overseen by a registered nurse.
What it costs: hourly care is $35–$42 per hour and live-in care is $450–$550 per day, with a written care plan and no long-term contract. See the New York and Connecticut cost guides.
How families pay: private pay and long-term care insurance in both states, and VA benefits for eligible veterans. In Connecticut we also work with Medicaid programs such as the Connecticut Home Care Program for Elders. We do not accept Medicaid in New York.
